WAHOO-WhAt is this?!

Okay, so I'm submitting these photos as a collage so I don't spam any inboxes, but all four of these photos depict the same thing.

This is some random sort of abandoned archway in the woods on Emmet Street in Charlottesville, Virginia. It sits behind a man-made lake in the woods. Just hanging out there. Nothing attached to it, either. It would seem like such a colossal waste to build an archway that no one will walk through and leave it off to the side. I suspect it was once the entrance to a building. But what building?! And when did it exist? Who can I even ask about it?

I pass it every day on my way to and from my dorm. A dorm mate and I maintain the theory that the doorway is actually a wormhole that works on very rare occasions. But I'm so curious about this archway that I had to share it with you all.

The first picture (top left) is taken from the front. I had to angle it slightly so you wouldn't see the random lacrosse net and wheelbarrow someone has been keeping back behind the archway in the woods.
The second picture (top right) also shows the front of the archway, but it's taken out closer to the street. I got all zoom-sniper so you could see it. I think seeing it from the sidewalk like this makes it look almost fantastical.
The third picture (bottom left) is taken from behind as a close-up on one of the bricks that has random numbers written in looks like white-out.
The final picture (bottom right) is taken from behind as well. Through the doorway you can see the UVa bookstore in the background. Emmet Street is there as well, though it's blocked by trees.

...This archway's got to have a story. Be it real or imagined.
