Basic Statistics
Name: Her working name is currently Astrid Hirsch.
Origin of name: Scandinavian. But I named her after Astrid Kirchherr!
Nationality (citizenship): Austrian
Ethnicity: German
Height and weight : 5'6" (167 cm) and 125 lbs. (56 kg)
Body type: She's on the underdeveloped side of things and fairly thin for her size.
Eyes: "Her eyes were pale green without a touch of hazel" (with apologies to Margaret Mitchell)
Birth date: September 29, 1920. I might make her a little younger. If that's the case, her birthday will be October 4, 1922.
Current residence: Linz, Austria
Religion: Christianity (Catholicism). Astrid is a very Catholic girl who looks for proof of God all around her. She considers her religion to be a crucial part of her life.
Occupation: Currently a student at a local gymnasium, but she wants to become a nurse.
Hobbies/Pastimes: hiking, people watching, volunteering/helping people
Talents/Skills/s: Very bright when it comes to math and science, so she can often help tutor other students. She also is very knowledgeable about the Bible and all things Catholic. Good at basic first aid, too.
Family: Her father is an engineer who works in Linz. He was born in 1893 in Flensburg, Germany. Her mother stays at home and takes care of the apartment. She was born in 1895 in Berlin, Germany and spent a good part of her youth (1905- 1911) in Sweden. Astrid's parents met in Wurzburg, Bavaria, Germany while her father studied at the University there. They moved to Linz shortly before Astrid was born because her father found a job there. Her younger brother, Karl, is  12 and also attends school.

Intellectual/Mental/Personality Attributes and Attitudes
Known Languages: German (her native language), English, a few words in Swedish
Character's goals/desires in life: To become a nurse, to help people in general, and to find a good Catholic husband
How does Character see him/herself? An Austrian catholic girl who wants to be a nurse, so she can make the world just a little bit better. She strongly believes in the presence of a benevolent God who is watching out for her. She is generally good about acknowledging her shortcomings. She sincerely wishes she could control her emotions more.
How does Character express himself? Writing! It also helps her to discuss things with Marta, Karen, and less frequently, her family.
Is this character generally dominant or submissive? Submissive
Patience level: Pretty patient overall. She is not easily angered, but once she is she can be a forced to be reckoned with!
Does the character seem ruled by emotion or logic or some combination thereof? Astrid is generally a logical girl. She will often take a little extra time to carefully analyze a situation. Once in a while, however, her emotions completely take over.
If they could be described with one of the seven virtues, which would it be? Charity: she loves and gives deeply, and is willing to make sacrifices.
If they could be described with one of the seven sins, which would it be? Wrath: once provoked, she can be hateful and say things she'll regret (especially accusatory things).
Optimist or Pessimist: pessimist
Introvert or extrovert: introvert
Greatest Fear: losing a loved one
Social standing: She's not so popular at school. It partially comes from the vibe she gives: people sometimes feel as if she's judging them.
Peculiarities: She's afraid of thunderstorms. She has an obsession with the actress Joan Bennett.
Intelligence/ IQ: slightly above average
Emotional Quotient "EQ": Average, in terms of "reading the mood" or responding appropriately to other's emotions. She can be very compassionate as well. Other characters can confide in her because they find her to be a sympathetic listener.
When angry: She rarely responds physically, but her words can cut or kill. She often launches an emotional, verbal rampage, and makes all sorts of accusations.

Misc. Views:
She thinks politics is terribly boring and she is dangerously under-informed about the events going on around her. Thus, she often learns about salient events or issues of the day through others. She's always a little skeptical of all that she hears.
She's never really thought one way or the other about diversity and co-existence with other groups of people. When she starts to work at the hospital, she is initially "put off" by the Gypsies.

Relationships with others
Loves: her family
Friends: Her two best friends are Karen and Marta, who are the same age as her. She and Marta have been acquaintances since they were both 11 years old. Karen moved to Linz from Ried im Innkreis, Austria, when the girls were 14. The three have been close ever since. They routinely confide in each other and gossip a little too. There's also a boy in her class, Walter, who also loves math and science the way she does, and they talk sometimes.
Hates:  Politicians
Dislikes: For a while, she has an overt and somewhat unfounded dislike of gypsies.  The way some people tell her science and religion are at odds with each other.
Is the character judgmental of others and how so? Yes, she is inclined to form an opinion about someone almost immediately after meeting them. She knows she shouldn't do so, but sometimes she just can't help it.

So... say hello to my original character, Astrid!

About the picture:
So this, ladies and gentlemen, is why I generally don't draw. But I desperately wanted to give her a form of her own, that I could use as a reference of sorts. Here she is in the classic "I can't draw hands" pose! :) My medium was a regular old pencil and some colored pencils I found around my house!
This was the photo I used as a reference for the dress: [link]

About the profile:
Astrid is slated to be one of two main characters in a novel my co-author and I are writing about World War II. Because just what the world needs is another one of those. Anyway, so she will be one of the main characters, and the other main character is the brainchild of my co-author, so you probably won't see him here until much later, if at all. This profile serves as sort of a "snapshot" of her in 1936, just before the novel's opening.

Fun Fact: I was originally going to make Astrid a resident of Hamburg, Germany like the real Astrid Kirchherr (where I found her name) but I decided to move to her to Linz, Austria, after reading this: [link] (It would have been craaazy if all of these plans actually came to fruition! :noes: )

:iconccwelcomedplz1::iconccwelcomedplz2: Yes, please! I would love to hear your thoughts on her. Though if you want to point out a historical inaccuracy or provide an informative tidbit, I'll ask you to please provide me a source. :D

And thanks to :iconluna--rose: and :iconwritehor: because I used some questions from your character profiles!

Very well characterized!  I'd like to see what happens to her during the War.
